276 Runs target for India - ICC World Cup Final

As said in my previous post Last 10 deciding overs of Sri Lanka Batting Sri Lankan cricket team really batted well in the last 10 overs and posed a competitive total for India to chase. At one point it seemed that India can restrict Sri Lanka ubnder 250 runs but a stunning century by Mahela Jayawardene made them score 274 runs. Indian chase will totally depend upon how the top 4 batsmen will score today specially the openers. India chase is about to begin in few minutes and I'll catch you with more updates soon . Just wait for few more hours to know who is the ICC worlc cup champion 2011

Last 10 deciding overs of Sri Lanka Batting

Sri Lankan batsmen build the innings slowly and steadily now its all left on how they will play the last 10 overs. Current score for Sri Lanka is 180 for the loss of 4 wickets in 39 overs. Keeping in mind that 5 overs of batting power play are also left for Sri Lanka, if they play without lossing more than a couple of overs they can score a competitive total. Remember what Sangakara said any thing the team will post will be a good total. 270+ scorfe will be difficult for India to chase.

ICC Cricket World Cup Final 2011 - India Vs Sri Lanka

The grand day 2 April 2011, India and Sri Lanka will face each other in the final of the ICC cricket world cup 2011. This is the first time that two Asian team will meet each other in the finals of the cricket world cup. This will be the third time both the team have reached the finals of the world cup and interestingly both India and Sri Lanka have won once and lost once in the finals.

Any of the team who wins the game on Saturday will carry home the world cup for the second time. Now one more record can be created if India manage to win the final match it will be first time in the history of the world cup that a host country wins the world cup.

No doubt Sri Lanka will be the toughest opponent India will face in the world cup. Let wait and watch the results of the match which are less than 48 hours from now. Keep yourself tune for the live score updates.

Quarter Final Match Today - ICC Cricket World Cup

Well this quarter final between South Africa and New Zealand also turned out to be a great match won easily by New Zealand despite posting a low score of 221. South African cricket team will once again carry the tag of chokers. It is surprising that a team of the levels of South Africa has never ever win any knock out match in the world cup.

At the same time New Zealand cricket team has entered the semi finals for the sixth time. The winner of the today's match between Sri Lanka and England will take on New Zealand in the first semi final match of the world cup on Tuesday March 29 whereas the second semi final will be played between India and Pakistan on the next day at Mohali Cricket Stadium in Mohali, Punjab.

Let talk about today's match which is about to begin in few minutes. Both the teams have different playing styles and Sri Lanka may look strong due to home conditions but we should not forger than England cricket team is the winner of T20 world cup and they are playing very good cricket from last few months. Though England have lost to Ireland and had a draw against India, they defeated South Africa, West Indies and other teams convincingly. On their day English team can defeat any team in the world. Let see how luck turn out to be for both the teams.

Latest news is that England won the toss and elected to bat first.

World Cup Quarter Final - Australia Vs India Live

First quarter final between Pakistan and West Indies was a one sided game easily won by Pakistan. Only winning the toss was the last thing happened well to the Caribbean team. There decision to bat first proved to be wrong when the team crashed to a low total but somehow surpassed the lowest total ever by West Indies. 112 runs just too short of a target for Pakistan. Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets.

Now let’s talk about the second quarter final, trust me this is not a quarter final but a kind of mini final or a semi-final game. Both Australia and India are among the top contenders for this cricket world cup and it would be interesting to see which team wins tomorrow. I will keep you all updated about the match throughout the day. So far India don't have an impressing record against Australia in the world cup but one thing must be on the Indian cricketers mind in Pakistan can defeat Australia then they too are capable of doing this.

One thing I am sure this will be a high scoring match.

Match 36 ICC World Cup 2011 - England v West Indies

Again a group B match in the world cup. All the remaining matches of group B will be interesting and you can say that virtually knock out stage has begun for group B. In Group A situation is clear about which team will qualify for the quarter finals. However in group B situation is totally different, there only one team has qualified for the quarter finals and remaining three will be decided in the do or die matches to come. In group B one of the team from India, Bangladesh, Wes Indies and England will be out of the tournament. Thus it is important for all the four teams to win the respective matches.

Let the case of match today between West Indies and England if West Indies wins the match then it will be good bye time for England. Thus England needs to win the match to remain in the tournament. If West Indies lose the today’s match then they still have the chance to make it to the next round by winning the next and the last match they have against India. Let’s wait which team will qualify for the quarter finals.

Sri Lanka Lost Dilshan Batting first

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat start but they didn't get the start they might have wanted and the opener Dilshan was out in second over scoring just 4 run in as many deliveries. Current score for Sri Lank is 20/1 in 3.3 overs.

As expected sri Lanks is playing with 3 spin bowlers, Latish Malinga in for this match while Kuleskera has benn rested.

Aussies are playing with full pace attack and one spinner. Pitch is a good batting track let see how thing progress from here.

Fastest World Cup Centry by Obrien

Fastest World Cup Centry by Kevin Obrien helped Ireland win the match against England. This match Ireland team break lots of records including mentioend below:

1. Fastest century in worl cup history
2. Highest 5th wicket partnership
3. Highest socre chased in world cup

I must also admit here that this was the most interesting match in the 2011 world cup so far, next best can be rated as the one between India and England played at the same venue last Sunday. England team is having trouble with macthes against under dogs as they had problem with match against Netherlands as well but they somehow managed to escape the Ryan ten Doeschate's onslaughter.

I can now defintely agree with the post match statement od Ireland captain who said the team still can qualify for the nest round of the tournament. They do have thre chances at the same time India and England will definitely have to work harder in comming matches so as they can qualify easily to the next round. India will play Ireland this sunday and this game wll be interesting one to watch now.

World cup match today: Today in world cup Netherlands is playing against the strong South African team who already have scored 284/4 in 46 overs. Now we will have to see if Netherlands can do the same thing as the Irish team did yesterday.

Good luck to the Netherlands team.

Player of the day : Kevin O'Brien

In the mean time South Africa have scored 351/5 in 50 overs and thus set a target hard for Netherlands to achieve.

Opening Ceremony 2011 Cricket World Cup

Now its just 18 days left for the tournament to start and I just can't wait for the world cup to start. So far I've written more about world cup squads of all the participating teams, venues and the stadiums but no information about the opening ceremony of world cup. Thought the openign match of the ICC world cup is on 19 Feb (India vs Bangladesh), the opening ceremony of the 2011 crciekt world cup willbe help 2 days before the first match i.e. 17 February 2011.

The openingceremony will be held at Bangabandhu Stadium of Gulistan, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Thus Bangladesh being the 10th test playing nation also takes the credit for opening ceremony of the 10th world cup. If you are wonderign about whre to watch the opening ceremony it will be telacasted on all the majot TV sports channels in the world and also I will be postign the update at this blog too. Enjoy!

Live Score World Cup Match 7 South Africa v West Indies

Welcome for the post on live score for the seventh match of the world cup 2011. Match will be played between South Africa and West Indies. You can catch the live scoring action of the match at ICC Cricket Blog. Below are few highlights of both the teams.

South Africa may have been number 2 or number 3 ranked team in ICC Cricket Rankings for both one day and test cricket for many years, but this team has always hard luck when it comes to major ICC tournaments like ICC World Cup, Champions Trophy etc. West Indies on the other hand was the champion in the initial years when cricket was growing as a sport. AFter winning the first two world cup tournaments West Indies team is on a decline and never looked so threatning it was once with 5 fast bowlers in the bowling and some really tough hitting batsmen.

I personally want West Indies win this world cup reasons are it will become the team to win maximum number of world cups after Australia and at the same time it would get the game some life in West Indies.

Let wait and watch which team will win the worlc cup. Enjot the tournament.

Kenya v Pakistan - Match 6 World Cup 2011

This is a day night match between the two teams of group A and will be played at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota. Pakistan being the team in the sub-continent will have a strong advantage of home like conditions but at the same time Pakistan team may not be the strongest one. Team like Kenya and Bangladesh has the histroy of disappointing big teams like India, Pakistan and West Indies in the world cup matches. The only point where Kenya team looks down is inexperience the team hasn't plated much cricket in the past. Thus we can say chances are there that Pakistan can win the match easily.

Till noe both Pakistan and Kenya have not decalred the teams for the world cup so I am unable to predict much about the future of both the teams in world cup. Will let you know about the team as declaration in dont my the team selectors.

Match 5 England v Netherlands - World Cup 2011

The counter for the ICC Cricket World Cup says 30 more days to go. The fifth match of the tournament will bre played against England and Netherlands. This is a group B match and will be a day night match to be played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur. Nagpur pitch is like most Indian pitches flat and the can be considered to be a high scoring game untill Netherlands who is relatively a less experienced team get bowled out to a small total batting first. I will rate this match equally as both the teams dont have any exceptional record and world cup. I wish Netherlands team good luck for the world cup a better show here in the tournament may be good fo rthe team and promotion of the game of cricket in teh nation.

England are already the T20 world champions and wil eb looking forward to win the cup they have never won earlier. England team confidence must alsol be higher after winning the Ashes but more can be predicted by the one day serices of seven matches they will play against Australia.

Will birng you more updates, keep visiting.

World Cup Squad for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Cricket board today announced the 15 member squad for the cricket world cup 2011. The way they have announced the list of 30 probables I was expecting the senoior member like Sanath jaysurya and Chaminda Vass in the team. Particularly sanath Jaysurya he has great recode in the Indian subcontinent and was the main player behind the Sri Lankan world cup win the in woreld cup held in the sub continent years back.

Below is the Sri Lankan team for the world cup:

Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Mahela Jayawardene (vice-captain), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath.

Match 4 - Australia vs Zimbabwe -Ahemdabad

Fourth match of the ICC cricket world cup will be a group A match played between
Australia v Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad. Given the fact that Australia has won the world cup maximum number of times and Zimbabwe is a troubled nation team, this match is also going to be a one sided match. Now till now we have seen that all the 3 previous matches also seem to be one sided affairs. Her is the pre-match review of the first three matches of the 2011 world cup:

• ICC Cricket World Cup Opening Match - World Cup 2011
• Match 2 World Cup 2011 Kenya v New Zealand at Chennai
• Match 3 world Cup - Sri Lanka Vs Canada

Perhaps this is the trend of all worl cup tournaments be it hockey, cricket, soccer or any other game. Games get exciting as the competition goes by. My best wishes to the zimbabwe team this nation definitely needs a world cup win fo rthe game to survie and grow in the nation. I really wnat them not to exit in the first phase of the tournament.

Match 3 world Cup - Sri Lanka Vs Canada

The third co-host of the ICC worlc cup 2011 wil l play there first match agains Canada on Feb 20th. For most of the cricket fans this is going to be a one sided match where Sri Lanka will have the advantage of home condition but Canadian fans can remain positive for the Canada cricket team as in cricket any team can beat the number one team on the given day.

It's stil not clear about who will be the 15 memebers representing Canada team however I am sure there will be some people from Indian/Asian roots in the team and they can prove to be the main reason for Canadas success in the tournament.

In the meantime Pakistan has still not declared the list of 30 probables players fo rthe world cup due to some players injvloved in sopt fixing scam.

The main surprise is from the Kenyan team that has 8 uncaped players in the list of probables.
