Boxing Day Test Series – Test Match 2

India will play second test match of the 4 match Gavaskar Border test series (also called Boxing Day test series) tomorrow at SCG (Sydney cricket ground). According the curators the pitch conditions will be beneficial to both the teams. Its means, we can expect both Indian spinners and Australian speed bowlers to pick up wickets.

Historically this ground has been lucky or team India and they have won a couple of matches here. This is the same venue where Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Aymonds have some firing moments at the ground and allegation of racial comments etc after that. Coincidently both the players are not playing in this series. Among Indian batsmen VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar have shown excellent batting record here. Sachin has even scored a double hundred here.

Now let’s discuss something about the most awaited century. If Sachin Tendulkar scores a test hundred in this match it would be a golden not because it is the 100^th test century by the little master but also because it will be scored in the 100^th test match played at the Sydney cricket ground.

India Vs West Indies Test Match Series - First Test Match

West Indies finished the first day day of first test match against India at Delhi with socreboardh reading 256/5. Indian bowlers did a good job getting 5 wickets on the track and have it one wicket more the days was for India. However splendid century from Shivnarine Chanderpaul made sure that West Indies have the upper hand at the end of day. Chanderpual is still not out and it'd be interesting to see if West Indies manage a big first Innings score OR if India can turn things dramatically taking quick wickets.

Another test match going on between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is all set for a draw with Sri Lanka leading by 237 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at stumps day 4.

Updates from the test cricket

I thought the first test match between Sri Lanks and Pakistan was going to be dull one after Sri Lank got our to a low total and Pakistan declared first innings at the score of 511 thus taking a first innings lead of more than 300 runs.

I thought it would be same display of batting from the Sri Lankan batsmen and they will loss the match most probablt on the first session of day 5. However Kumar Sangakkara score a century and he sill still not out at 161.

With Sri Lankan scoreboard telling 298/5 at Stumps day 4 and Sri Lanka trail by 16 runs with 5 wickets remaining. Now all Sri Lanka need is to bat more sensibly for around 2 sessions tomorrow. However the strength of Pakistan is the bowling despite dropped catches (5 today), poor umpiring they can create wickets anytime for the side.

Lets see how game progresses tomorrow.

One the other hand Bangladesh one ot best starts the team had again West Indies and have scored 255 runs for the loss of 4 wickets on day 1.

Champions League Twenty20 & Australia tour of Sri Lanka Updates

In my last post about retirement of Rahul Dravid from One day international cricket matches, it felt like that I'll have to wait for a long time to watch him play cricket as team India next test match series yet have few months to go. Perhaps he will be available for the India Vs Australia matches in December.

Since Dravid is not a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore this years other wise we can have him watch playing in Champions League Twenty20 series that began today. However I am sure he will be available for another season of IPL at least.

Today in Champions League Twenty20 qualifiers two matched were played i.e.:

1. Auckland v Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR pulled out a win by just 2 runs defending a small total of 121 runs. Perhaps it was hard luck of Auckland who were once looking as they were win the match bu huge margin and thus can get big net run rate advantage. But few runo outs and inability to play slower bowlers well turned the match in KKR's favor.
   
2. Ruhuna v Trinidad & Tobago - T&T wun the match against Sri Lanka's team Ruhuna by 5 wickets. Trinidad & Tobago had a good Champions League Twenty20 season last time also and it seems they will do well this time as well. May be some players from this team will play in IPL next year as well.
   

Now coming to Australia vs Sri Lanka test match the match seems to be headed towards a draw. Australia lead by 52 runs with 7 wickets remaining at stumps on day 4 thus only one days play left we can expect an early close of the match if both captain agree.

Good start for India but still trail by 100 runs

Dravid and VVS Laxman gave India a good start after first ball dismissal of openor Abhimanyu Mukund. Together they both build the partnership of 93 runs, before Laxman got out after scoring 54 runs. It seemed like India can take advantage of the situation but Sachin Tendulkar fell right after lunch, in a situation India still trailing by 100 runs.

Dravid is still looking good and it all depends upon him and the fellow batsmen Raina, Yuvraj and Dhoni to bat well and take some substantial first inning lead even if they have to play some risky shots.

There are still 53 overs left for today but the way Indian team is batting its hard to say if they can take any lead all Indian fans can pray is that they don't loose lots of wickets.

Another Series, another opportunity for Sachin's 100 centuries

With every game Sachin Tendulkar plays a couple of records are broken or a new record is made. Now as he is back to the Indian cricket team and will play in the Test series against England. All eyes are again on Sachin to see if he will complete his 100th century in cricket in this series or not. A century of centuries will be a record that will allure lot of cricketers for decades to come if not centuries :) So far Tendulkar has 48 one day international centuries and 41 test centuries.

Sachin is a world class player and its just one good innings that is needed for his 100th century. So all of you just follow the fixtures below for the India tour of England:

India Win Series but Loose Points

So called inexperienced Indian team started well by winning the only T20 match and then first three matches of the 5 Match ODI series, but they lost the remaining two matches of the series and thus it cost one point to the ODI rankings as well.

India currently ranks second in the ICC one day international team rankings and this ranking can be further pushed down to number three if Sri Lanka manages to win the ODI series against England. Both Sri Lanka and England are ranked below India in the ODI team rankings of ICC.

The three test match series starts from 20th June at Kingston. India is the number one test team but this time like ODI team test team is also little inexperienced. West Indies on the other hand managed to draw the test series against Pakistan and they have won last two ODI against India as well.

It'd be interesting to see the competition between both the team. Will bring you all the live action of the first test match between both the team from Kingston, West Indies.

At the end of day teo Sehwag is just 3 runs short fromhis century and Sachin 6 runsshort from his half century. In case they both bat together for 2 sessions tomorrow India wil have great chances of winning the test and then leveling the series.

Day 5 Test 1 India vs Sri Lanka

Hi All,

In my last post Can India save first test match - India vs Sri Lanka I depicted India will hardly be able to save the test and things going as predicted. MS Dhoni hot out quickly, so did Harbhajan Singh, however VVS Laxman is still fighting the battle with some good support by Mithun and now by Ishant Sharma. By some good partner ships among these three India have avoided an innings defeat, this means Sri Lanka will have to bat again now, In case they are able to pick two wickets quickly.

My prediction was that if India batting can last for three session, so far they have survived till lunch with 70 runs lead. In case this pair and Ojha who is still to come can survive anothe 80 runs India can definitely save this test Match. One good thing I am looking is that Sangakara wants Muralitharan to complete 800 wickets so he is made to bowl longer spells and other bowlers didn't want to pick a wicket.

India Sri Lanka Test Series - Day 3

Well today it didn't rained and play started. Last days rains and stormed made favorable conditions for Indian seamers and they looked dangerous. But despite the early blog Sri Lakan score has gone past 400 runs and this can be alarming for team India. Currenty Sri Lanka is batting at Sri Lanka 419/7 (104.0 ov) . With another 50+ overs possible today it will a test of stron Indian batting line if they can save the match and India can only play for draw this time.

None of the Indian spinner got any wicket in this inning so far, perhaps it will be Murali to take wickets in his last match.

The test that will saw the end of the carreer of legendary bowler who single handedly lead the Sri Lankan bowling attack has begun. In the morning Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Given the inexperienced Indian bowling attack Sri Lanka started well against the number one test team in the world.

Both the batsmen Paranavitana and Sangakara are on the verge to reach the centuries. Current score is Sri Lanka 188/1 (47.6 ov) now it would be interesting how Indian bowlers perform post tea session.

India Sri Lanka Test Series - India without main pace attack - Ruling out of main bowler Zaheer Khan alongith Sreeshanth due to injuries is the main concern of recently wed Indian cricket team Captain M S Dhoni. Adding to his worries is the news that main spinner Harbhajan Singh is suffering from fever and will miss the practice match. Hoever he is expected to be fit by the first test match. The firt match of the series will also be interesting as its the last match of the ace spinner from Sri Lanka Muttiah Muralitharan who have took 792 test wickets so far and it'd be exciting to see if he can make it to the 800 mark. Well it seemes like rain will help South Africa draw this game however play has started again with South Africa trailing by 232 runs and has 7 wickets in hand. India will need just another 2 wickets to get hold of the match and retain the number one position in ICC test rankings.

Latest news is that only one over was bowled and game has stopped again due to bad light.

Well Indian bowlers did the task well by restricint South Afrcia to a score of 296. South africa last wicket fell early on day two and its now upto Indian batsmen to put great batting performance. India have got to a quick start but also lost two early wickets. Gautam gambhit got run out and Murali vijay wan't able to touch even two figures score. However as Sachin nand Virendar Sehwag are on the crease, India's hope of touching 300 runs today are alive. Let see how both sachin and Sehwag build the innings from here on. If Sachin score a century today, it will be his fourth one in a row.

India Vs South Africa - Will Sachin, Dhoni save test

Yea the question of the moment is will Sachin and Dhoni save the test match for India? Well Sachin is looking in goo dtouch and is on the verge of another test match hundred and Dhoni also have played 50 balls till now and must be having good idea of the pitch now. however the task is not so simple India is trailing by 160 runs with 6 wickets remaining. To draw this match India need to make sure they batt till minimum two sessions of the day fifth, even if they bat till lunch or poost lunch they will also need to have a lead worth enough to drwa the test match. All hopes are on both these batsmen now. one wichet here and India will loose this test match

India forced to Follow on by south Africa

India is on the way to loose its number one position and also and first test being played between India and South Africa. Follwing on and also trailing by more than 350 runs India still has to get some extra batting efforts and very god innings as they against Austraila. But unfortunately both batsmen that saved that match for India (Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman) are not in the team due to injuries.

Chances of such innings are very rares, given India has already lost 2 wickets and all hopes are now on Sachin Tendulkar and other new batsmen to build long partnership. Let see what happens, India will have to work very hards to save this test match India needs to bat 2 full days to save the test and so far they look unable to bat a single day.

Hopefully India will manager to bat till tomorrow morning first session and save this test. Remember this series win is must for both team s for Idnia to retain the number one test team position and for South Africa to achieve the number one position.
